“This was perfect. None of us had this knowledge before and we need this!”

Director of Living Waters Academy Preschool

Last year, supporters helped Hamline University, in St. Paul, MN, create The Education Certificate of Foundational Learning to Empower the Children of India. This certificate is issued by Hamline University in partnership with Hands of Freedom, India.

Our progress to date

Our three-course, college-level professional development series empowers the teachers of Hands of Freedom’s Living Water Academy in India, who are working after school in the slums, with at-risk preschool children. With much prayer, determination, and donations by faith filled people, a new partnership between a Hamline University professor and the Director of Living Waters Academy Preschool in India bloomed! Together, they tailored the new knowledge of trauma informed practices and secondary trauma into an engaging and relevant course for the 18 India participants. The students included preschool teachers, after school program teachers, pastors and other ministry team members.  The first course, Trauma Informed Instruction to Better Meet the Social and Emotional Needs of Young Children, was held February 1 through March 26, 2021.

The director of Living Waters Academy Preschool reported, “This was perfect. None of us had this knowledge before and we need this!” She saw the team immediately apply their learning to their families and communities, and they are now empowered to make change happen with these new understandings about the brain, trauma and learning. With strong leadership, the effective collaboration between Hamline and Hands of Freedom, and the thirst for learning from the participants made it possible to overcome challenges. God provided a way through technology issues, language barriers and a full lockdown at the end of March, when 2 class sessions remained. The director of Living Waters Academy conducted ‘understanding interviews’ with each participant to ensure everyone understood the concepts, as they wrapped up.

Our goal is to begin the second course on Child Development in the spring/summer 2021. To make this happen, we need to raise the remaining funds by the end of May. We have raised $9,800.79 of the $17,400 needed to continue developing the content and pay tuition costs.

Those involved in this program are already donating much of their time and expertise to make this happen. We need your help to enable generations of children to realize their worth. Please use the form below to contribute to the solution.
